GREETINGSspring.gif (790 bytes)

Now is a good time for you to strengthen your stomach and spleen energies. The best way to do this is to have some simple herbs and perhaps have some acupuncture. The time to do this is 18th August to 1st September. If you suffer from ailments during spring, preventative treatment during this period would be beneficial for you. Each season brings changes to the environment and also changes to the body. You should watch out for the following problems which may occur with the coming of spring:

  • Liver
During spring the liver is very active. This activity may cause you to suffer from headaches and neck stiffness, tendons and ligaments may also become sore.
  • Wind
You should be careful to avoid over exposure to winds. This exposure can lead to eye trouble such as conjunctivitis.
  • Emotions
It has been said that in spring a young man’s thoughts turn to love. Chinese practitioners have another view. Spring is often a season which brings on conditions of irritability and anger. These symptoms are associated with a condition which we call "Liver Yang Rising".

What can you do?

There are several simple steps that you can take which will help strengthen your body to avoid the problems I have referred to:

  • DIET - Avoid sour foods, drink chrysanthenum flower tea. A simple herb soup which may be helpful is as follows: Ching Po Leung. There herbs are added to chicken or pork soup

  • MASSAGE - Massage helps energy move throughout the body. Massage of the neck, hand and foot will be of help. A simple five minute finger massage can do wonders

  • SLEEP - Rest and meditation can help soothe an angry liver. A simple technique to help you with sleep is to soak your feet in hot water half an hour before retiring for the evening. While doing this follow a simple meditation exercise. Always try to retire at least 2 hours before midnight

I wish you well for the spring season.
